Gord Johns wins Federal NDP nomination for Courtenay-Alberni riding

The Federal NDP party have found their candidate for the newly formed Courtenay-Port Alberni riding; Gord Johns of Tofino, who defeated Courtenay’s Ronna Rae Leonard at the nomination meeting over the weekend.

Johns says it was a hard fought battle against a great person.

Leonard says while the loss was obviously disappointing personally, she’s ready to rally behind Gord Johns.

Johns also shared his strategy, as he will go up against longtime Conservative MP John Duncan, who’s also running in the Courtenay-Alberni riding.

Johns is a former Tofino councilor, and is married with three children and two stepchildren. He’s been in Tofino for the past 20 years, and before that, he called Victoria home.
