Trains back on track for Vancouver Island

After what seemed like an endless wait, leading to serious doubts on whether Comox Valley residents would ever hear the romantic sound of a train’s whistle again, passenger rail service will be back in business in less than a year.

Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula sits on the board of the Vancouver Island Corridor Foundation and is thrilled to hear service will soon be back on track.

Meanwhile Jangula says when the trains start rolling again, the base of operations will be in Nanaimo, with a new and improved schedule, although exact departure and arrival times have yet to be flushed out.

The tentative agreement announced this afternoon loosens the purse strings on about 20-million dollars in local, provincial and federal funding, to finance major infrastructure improvements to the line.
