Flushing of water mains may result in discoloured water: Town of Comox

COMOX, B.C. – The Town of Comox is assuring residents not to worry if they see a bit of colour in their water over the next few weeks.

Starting March 25, the Town of Comox’s public works department is undertaking their annual flushing of water mains.

According to the town, the program is necessary to ensure good water quality.

The program begins Monday, March 25 and finishes Friday, May 10.

All work will take place from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

“This program may result in temporary but harmless slight discolouration of the water and although it does not present a hazard to your health, it is advised that you reserve some drinking water for that time,” a town release said. “Should discolouration occur, running a cold water tap for a period of time will remove any discolouration.”

The town notes that “where practical, residents should avoid washing laundry during operational hours as to do so could result in discolouration of clothes.”

Motorist are asked to slow down and use caution when approaching flushing crews.
