BC Coroners Service releases report on young driver deaths

The BC Coroners Service recently reviewed all 106 young driver deaths from 2004 to 2013, and their report found a slew of factors that have led to these fatalities.

Here’s the Chair of the BC Coroners Service’s Child Death Review Unit, Michael Egilson.

Egilson goes on to list report recommendations that would hopefully lead to a decrease in the number of young driver MVAs.

He says the idea behind the reviews is to find themes and opportunities to prevent similar deaths in the future. Among other stats, the review found that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15 to 18-year-olds. Almost 90% of the fatalities were 17 and 18-year-olds.
