Nanaimo RCMP Dispatch Centre to be moved to Courtenay

The RCMP are consolidating their Operational Communications Centres on Vancouver Island… and it is going to have an impact regionally.

Lois Karr is E Division’s OCC Manager. She says the plan is to merge the Central Island OCC, based in Nanaimo, with the North Island OCC in Courtenay.

Karr says the PSAP function is separate, so the decision to move the police dispatching has no bearing on whether they do the PSAP or not.

It not yet decided whether that job function will be moved to Courtenay too.

Karr says all 21 dispatchers working in Nanaimo have been offered jobs in Courtenay.
