Early morning call for Courtenay firehouse

Four people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, after a mattress caught on fire in a house on Rennie road.

Courtenay fire crews were called out to the scene just before 5 A.M. Wednesday. Deputy Fire Chief Kurt MacDonald says, they found the burning mattress in a bedroom. They put out the fire, then tended to the 4 family members.

MacDonald says the fire caused mostly minor damage to the house, like smoke damage, some burnt laundry and of course, the burnt mattress.

He adds the next step is figuring out what caused the fire to begin with.
