Suspicious behaviour leads to police drug seizure in Courtenay

A hunch about suspected drug dealing in the Comox Valley turned out to be right.

On Aug. 12th, the Comox Valley RCMP Street Crimes Unit seized suspected heroin and fentanyl after a report of suspicious activity in Courtenay.

A week earlier, the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of the suspicious behaviour, that’s consistent with drug trafficking.

That triggered an investigation and led to officers stopping a vehicle and arrested the driver for trafficking.

The subsequent search of the vehicle led police to a large amount of cash, as well as suspected illicit drugs.

“Everyone in our community has the opportunity to contribute to public safety. If you see something that does not seem right, step up and make a report,” Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni said.

“This seizure will have a direct impact on the drug trade here in the Comox Valley and it all started with someone taking the time to report suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.”

The driver has been released from custody and is expected to appear in court in the coming months.
