Things will look different for Canada Day in the Comox Valley this year.
The City of Courtenay says as the community grieves over the tragic legacy of residential schools in our country, the organizing team shifted away from the original plans to host a virtual variety show, to instead go ahead with a revised program that will reflect the solemnity of these times.
It will be called “Canada Day Reflections”, and is a partnership between Courtenay Recreation, Comox Valley Arts, and the Sid Williams Theatre Society.
The celebrations will include a one-hour virtual performance by the Vancouver Island Symphony Brass Quintet.
The Comox Valley Arts- Community Arts Council will also have a list of resources and reference documents for those who want to learn more about the stories of residential school survivors and the path toward reconciliation.
At 10:00am on Thursday as well, 19 Wing Comox plans to host a flyby over the valley.
