Comox Valley Water System moving to Stage 3 water restrictions next Monday

Most of the Comox Valley will be moving into Stage 3 water restrictions next Monday, Aug. 16.

The Comox Valley Water System restrictions include Courtenay, the town of Comox, and the Comox Valley Water Local Service Area.

Residential lawn and garden watering with a sprinkler will not be allowed during Stage 3.

There will also be a ban on pressure washing driveways and boulevards, filling a swimming pool, hot tub or garden pond, or washing a vehicle or boat other than in a commercial car wash or car dealership.

Residents will be able to water flowers, trees, shrubs, and vegetables with hand-held containers, hand-held hoses with an automatic shut-off nozzle, or micro-irrigation or drip-irrigation systems between 6 a.m. and 8 am or 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

More information about what is not allowed during Stage 3 can be found here.

BC Hydro is decreasing water flows down the Puntledge River so that there is enough water for fish habitat and migration.

“This change in water flow triggers us to move to Stage 3 restrictions,” said Mike Herschmiller, manager of Water Services for the Comox Valley Regional District. “We appreciate the community’s conservation efforts at this time to help ensure there is enough water available for domestic needs and fire protection.”
