Stage 3 water restrictions are now in place for the Black Creek – Oyster Bay area after a water leak was discovered.
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) says a portion of cement piping in the water system has cracked and will need extensive repair.
Senior manager of Water/Wastewater services Kris La Rose says the restrictions are being put in place to avoid emergency measures.
“Our team noticed an unusually high consumption rate in the water system and ended up finding a major leak in one of our pipes,” said La Rose. “A bypass is being installed until the pipe can be repaired, which will significantly reduce the amount of water available in the Black Creek-Oyster Bay area.”
“We’re asking residents in the Black Creek-Oyster Bay area to reduce their water use and only focus on essential consumption. Our hope is to avoid an emergency Stage 4 level, and following these restrictions will help that greatly.”
Stage 3 water restrictions mean residents cannot:
- Water a lawn or boulevard;
- Fill or add water to a swimming pool, hot tub, or garden pond;
- Fill or add water to or operate a decorative fountain at any time; or
- Wash a vehicle, boat, or other equipment with water
The CVRD says the repairs are expected to be done by the end of August and traffic might be briefly affected along Regent Road in Oyster River.
They add water quality and cleanliness should not be affected.
