A major, million dollar sewer upgrade project is set to get going in the Headquarters road and Vanier drive area on Monday.

Lesley Hatch is an engineer with the City of Courtenay, and says the project involves about 1200 meters of sewer main being replaced or newly installed in an effort to close a gap in the system.

Hatch says the idea is to link up the existing sewer on Veterans’ Memorial Parkway with another existing link on Headquarters road.

Hatch adds, they’re also keeping an eye on the future.

Specifically, the work zone is on Headquarters road between Glacier drive and Vanier drive, as well as on Vanier to the entrance of the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

Hatch says the work will mean periods of alternating, single lane traffic on Headquarters and Vanier.

Crews will work weekdays from 7 am to 7 pm, with a projected deadline of the end of September.
