Tour De Rock rolls through Campbell River on the way to Courtenay

Riders in the Cops for Cancer Tour De Rock made their way from Sayward to Campbell River yesterday.

The rain wasn’t bad according to rider Wes Richens but they did face 50 to 60-kilometre-an-hour headwinds.

In Campbell River, the tour stopped at a few different schools and Richens reception made them feel like rockstars.

“You walk into the gym and they’re all yelling and screaming and cheering us on. It was super cool,” said Richens. One school the riders stopped at raised $2200 to shave a student’s head. “It was cool to see the kids behind him, they were all cheering him on,” said Richens.

Today riders will head out for Black Creek and Merville stopping at businesses and schools along the way before ending the day in Courtenay.

To date, the ride has raised almost $553,000 for pediatric cancer.

It’s not too late to make a donation on the Cops for Cancer website.
