Habitat for Humanity looks to double holiday campaign goal

With the housing crisis and high cost of homes, Habitat for Humanity is looking to double its holiday campaign fundraiser goals.

The campaign, which kicks off next Tuesday, is a matching campaign to match money raised by individual donations with sponsors’ donations until Dec. 31.

The organization helps build safe, decent and affordable homes for those in need on Vancouver Island, bringing 39 affordable homes to the North Island since 2004. They add they need support more than before this year as the cost of living has put affordable home ownership out of reach of many families in need.

“Now, more than ever, families who want to enter the housing market require a hand up, rather than a handout,” said Habitat for Humanity executive director Jeff West.

Habitat says the call for sponsorships is still open with participants getting recognition in many ways for their support.

“Our sponsors set the tone and target for our campaign with every individual donation doubled during this period up to the full amount of sponsored donations,” said communications and fundraising director Stefano Tromba.

“This campaign is vital to our home building efforts as it helps spark the growth of our year-round monthly giving program.”

One of this year’s sponsors, Christoph Real Estate Group, adds the feel this is the right cause to support as the real estate market is tough for families right now.

Habitat adds donations are very important as they create a consistent and reliable source of support.
