A fundraiser that aims to get more youth on the slopes is off to a good start, but they are still in need of boards and other essentials for a winter’s riding.
According to JumpCamp owner and operator Patrick Kitto, they are getting many donations, and this year looks promising to get more kids out riding.
Kitto adds, however, they are still looking for more snowboards, boots, bindings. He adds that even goggles and gloves can go a long way to helping kids.
“If you’re not using it, it’s a really cool way to put it to use and kids will really have fun with the equipment,” said Kitto.
According to Kitto, the fundraiser was able to provide 20 boards and gear to local families and youth programs. He says the sport of snowboarding provides access to a community that can be very beneficial for families.
“We see lots of kids that are more than capable of snowboarding but maybe they don’t have the funds or means to get up the mountain,” he added.
“It’s just out in nature and lots of fun and we’ve taken groups of kids that have never done it before and they’re all having fun together by the end of the day. It’s just all together having a good time.”
If you have gear that you would like to donate, the gear can be dropped off at the front desk of the Lewis Centre. You can also donate your refundable empties at the Courtenay Return-It Depot.
The fundraiser is on until Dec. 15.
