Comox Valley Schools to be represented at National Theatre ABCDE Provincial Drama Festival

For the second year in a row, Comox Valley schools will be represented at the National Theatre ABCDE Provincial Drama Festival after a stellar North Island Regional Drama Festival.

According to Comox Valley Schools, G.P. Vanier’s drama performance “Trap” by Stephen Gregg and directed by Lori Mazey was selected as the outstanding production. Nanaimo’s NDSS was the runner up.

They add Vanier also earned accolades in acting, ensemble work, stage management, directing, costume coordination and lighting design.

Highland Secondary’s “Scent of Honeysuckle” directed by Lisa Williams, was another highlight with the school winning awards for directing and other theatrical aspects.

“While awards are not the sole motivation for students, the recognition was an honour, reflecting their commitment to excellence in theatre arts,” said the district.

They add students described the event hosted by Carihi and Timberline as inspiring and terrifyingly beautiful.

Vanier will present “Trap” in the multi-purpose room of the school on Jan. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door, with proceeds aiding the cast and crew’s trip to the Provincial Festival in New Westminster in May.
