Injured hunter, son rescued by Comox Valley Search and Rescue in icy conditions

An injured hunter and their son are safe after being rescued by Comox Valley Search and Rescue on an icy logging road.

Search manager Bronwen Beedle says they got a call from BC EHS at around 10:15 Wednesday morning. Beedle says the injured hunter had tried to contact BC EHS, but the conditions on Comox Lake Logging Road were too difficult for the ambulance to get in.

Beedle says the SAR team had to put on chains to get up the road, but also flew in a helicopter because it was cold, and the road conditions would have made the trip out very painful for the individual.

The helicopter took the duo in from the area to an awaiting ambulance at the Courtenay Airpark, which then took them to the hospital, according to SAR.

As this is the third search of the year for Comox Valley Search and Rescue, Beedle urges caution in the backcountry, especially with the slippery logging roads.
