Potential for flooding with high river levels, tides and storm surge Wednesday: Alertable

Wednesday could see the potential for flooding in the Comox Valley between Royston and Comox thanks to high river levels, tides and storm surge.

The alert issued by Alertable on Tuesday from Environment Canada warns that high tides and river levels will combine with strong southeast winds between early and mid-Wednesday morning.

They add coastal flooding is possible along exposed shorelines, especially in low-lying areas.

The Comox Valley Regional District adds there are certain steps you can take to prepare for a flood including:

  • Storing valuables and important items in watertight containers or high places
  • Clean your gutters regularly
  • Keep nearby storm drains clear of debris
  • Clear snow at least three to five feet away from your home’s foundation

Sandbags can also be picked up in various locations in the Comox Valley. Locations can be found here.

The district adds that the most important thing you can do in a flood is follow all evacuation alerts and orders and all instructions from local authorities.
