Comox Valley SPCA manager encourages missing pet posts

When it comes to pets that go missing, posting that information is important to pet owners.

That comes from Branch manager of Comox Valley SPCA Stephanie Arkwright. The centre is one of 35 across the province aiming to protect and improve the quality of life for animals who are sick, neglected, abused, and homeless.

According to Arkwright, there is a lot more exposure to missing pets.

“There is a lot more different outlets now that people can get the information out there when they are missing their pets,” said Arkwright.

“We tend to be a little bit more aware now about animals that are missing.”

She says when the owners of an indoor-outdoor cat move into an area, it could lead the cat to try and find its old territory, resulting in it being missing. SPCA encourages owners to allow the cat to get used to their new home before going outside.

Along with missing pet posts, Arkwright adds another thing she notices is when people post about animal sightings.

“If you see a cat or a dog that you don’t recognize and might be new to the area it doesn’t always mean that they are missing, but it’s good to post to put that info out there,” said Arkwright.

She says it is important to have some form of permanent identification on your animals, so that way SPCA can locate you if your lost pet is found.
