No tsunami expected from Aleutian Islands earthquake this morning

An earthquake this morning in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands isn’t expected to have any negative effects.

The quake was magnitude 5.8, according to the US Geological Survey. It happened at around 9:30 this morning at a depth of 116 kilometres, off the coast of the volcanic island of Amchitka.

The US National Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no tidal wave or danger expected from the earthquake.
