Yard and wood waste event coming to Comox in late-April

A yard and wood waste chipping event is coming to Comox later this month.

According to the Comox Valley Firesmart resilience committee, this free event focuses on supporting firesmart safety on properties by encouraging the community to remove yard waste and wood debris.

They say waste and debris could potentially fuel wildfires and endanger homes if not removed.

For what you should and shouldn’t do, the Town of Comox says you can’t bring rocks, nails or roots, treated lumber, construction waste, bags of leaves or grass clippings.

Other rules include making sure that all bottom ends of the branches are pointing in the same direction, having tree trimmings under 6.3 inches in diameter and 32 feet in length, and to not bring any invasive species.

The town adds the chipping contractor will have the right to refuse any pile and debris they feel doesn’t meet the rules.

You can drop off the waste and debris at the parking lot of Comox Fire Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on April 27 and 28.
