Snowbirds arrive at Comox for annual spring training

The snowbirds are back for spring training in Comox.

According to 19 Wing, they arrived on Monday and will be doing their annual spring training until May 16.

Public affairs officer Captain Christine MacNeil says they put a routine together during the training.

“They spend the year perfecting it and the reason they come to Comox is because not only it’s milder than Moosejaw at this time of year but also in order to perform overwater, they have to have practice overwater,” said MacNeil.

“When they come to Comox, we provide the ocean, and we also provide a different landscape because we have mountainous terrain.”

19 Wing says during the training, you can watch them from Air force beach by buying a day pass for $5.

For weekends, they say you must have a season pass to enter the beach, where you may be turned away if parking is full.

MacNeil adds after training the snowbirds will perform an acceptance show, followed by air shows.
