Qummunity Connections hosting pride event in Courtenay this weekend

A local 2SLGBTQIA+ group called Qummunity Connections is hoping to raise funds to help keep its programs running.

To do that, it will be hosting a pride event at the Wachiay Friendship Centre (1625 McPhee Ave) in Courtenay this weekend.

Jennifer Corbett is one of the organizers. She says there is a long list of fun activities planned.

“We’re going to have DJ’s, drag performances, musicians, we’ve got a couple rain dancers lined up as well, we’ve got a drumming circle that is coming to perform for us. A lot of fun entertainment.”

Corbett adds that the team is following all provincial health guidelines to make sure everyone can stay safe, but still have fun.

“We’re doing different time slots so that we can arrange to have 50 people at a time at the event. So there will be a timeslot of 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, and 4:00pm, where folks can come.”

Qummunity Connections is a peer support and community action group for people who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+.

The group provides a safe space for youth and young adults, age 15-30 and creates spaces for members to gather for support, social activities, education, guest speakers, “Qummunity” events, workshops, and volunteer projects.
