Community celebration in January to mark 80th anniversary for Town of Comox

The Town of Comox is preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary.

From Jan. 12 to 18, 2026, will feature a full week of events to mark the town’s incorporation as it traces its beginnings to 1946, when it was first incorporated, and later transitioned to town status in 1967.

Mayor Nicole Minions said the milestone is a celebration of the community’s past, present and future. “The Town’s 80th anniversary is a celebration of our people, our history, and the future we are building together. I invite everyone to join us, share their stories, and be part of this special moment,” she said.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14 — the official anniversary date — the town will host a community open house at the Comox Archives and Museum and the Pearl Ellis Art Gallery, located at 1729 Comox Ave. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include mayoral remarks, tours, interactive activities and historical exhibits.

The archives will also launch a new exhibit, 80 Years: A Comox Time Capsule, featuring photographs, newspaper clippings and stories from the mid-1940s.

For more details on the anniversary week, the Town encourages residents to visit its website.
