Cumberland is promoting a program that both feeds the needy and keeps bears out of yards.
Volunteers from the Lush Fruit Tree Program will harvest thousands of pounds of fruit and produce from homes, farms and orchids.
The fruit and veggies are then redistributed back to the community.
The program aims to give access to local produce to people who need it, decrease food waste and emission, and keep animals off properties.

Fallen fruit is a major bear attractant and factor into bears becoming food-conditioned, human-habituated, and potentially destroyed.
If you need help picking your fruit, contact the program at [email protected] or 250-331-0152.Â
