Full disclosure, I was leading a very unhealthy life before I started going to Bodynetix. Regularly eating greasy fast food because it was so much easier than cooking. Binge eating on the weekend because it felt indulgent. Maybe getting to a trail once a month for a fairly leisurely walk. I knew changing these habits, patterns, coping mechanisms… really – changing my lifestyle – was key to long lasting healthy changes.
It’s daunting though. Upending your life and changing so much about what makes you comfortable is not something most people can do overnight. So, one day I decided that I shouldn’t focus on changing everything but make small easily incorporated changes. When Robyn came to us in the station saying we could get Bodynetix passes, and we could all go together at lunch; that was a small change I thought I could get behind.
Just a couple weeks in; I started to notice something. I no longer craved fast food! It was after an evening class. We hadn’t eaten dinner yet so Nicole and I talked about what we should get. When she suggested pizza, a meal I rarely say “no” to, I emphatically said no. The idea of the once glorious grease, after a workout, seemed wrong. And the change continued into all facets of my eating habits. Lunches are now more balanced. I make smaller breakfasts, and make sure to eat more regularly instead of sporadically throughout the day.
This change, which seemed so small by the time I realized it, has continued to snowball. Now I eat more healthily because my body doesn’t crave the bad food, and I don’t want to undermine all my progress. With that said, I don’t run in terror at a burger, or hide from a pizza. Don’t get me wrong, I still indulge from time to time. But it’s become a treat. Something I only do on the rare occasion (not as rare as I’d like you to think), and the change started the first time I walked through the door at Bodynetix!
