Community invited to celebrate d’Esterre Seniors’ Centre’s 50th anniversary July 18

Comox residents are invited to celebrate a milestone next month.

The d’Esterre Seniors’ Centre Association will mark the centre’s 50th anniversary on July 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. near the gazebo at Comox Marina Park.

Comox Mayor Nicole Minions said the town is proud to celebrate the milestone and the volunteers who support the centre.

“Fifty years ago, a group of dedicated people came together with a vision to create a place where seniors could connect, stay active and be part of a growing community and today that vision continues to thrive and is an essential part of this community.”

The family-friendly event will feature live music, a beer garden, a barbecue and a kids’ zone with face painting and games.

The seniors’ centre opened in 1976 after a need was identified in the early 1970s for a dedicated gathering space for local seniors.

“As we celebrate 50 years, we honour those who laid the foundation and everyone who has helped make this a welcoming place for friendship, learning and shared memories,” said association president Myrna Holman.

All are encouraged to attend the free event.
